UC Davis Takes Care of Colorado Competition, Turns Sights On Aggie Roundup

| Box Score 2 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. After a week spent on the road in Colorado, first training at altitude then competing in the Rare Air Invitational, the Aggies will return home with an unblemished 4-0 record.

UC Davis handled their opponents with ease, winning each game this weekend by an average margin of victory of about 15 goals.

UC Davis took down Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 15-5 in a Sunday morning clash, before facing off against tournament hosts Air Force in the final game. The Aggies defeated the Falcons 18-5.

Claremont jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the first period of action. Logan Anderson's second goal of the half brought things back even and helped to build momentum for a lead the Aggies wouldn't give back.

UC Davis went into the half leading 6-3 and locked in for the third period, where they shut out the Stags and ballooned the lead to 10 goals.

It was an egalitarian scoring effort, with 12 different Aggies finding the back of the net.

The Aggies started out slow again in the afternoon tilt, with Air Force building a 2-0 lead through the first four minutes of play.

Aggie goalie Frank Laptin stifled the Falcon offense helping Davis to battle back and take a two goal advantage into the second period.

Laptin allowed only three goals in the next three periods and finished the game with a remarkable 18 saves.

Aleix Aznar Beltran, JT Kujawa, Ben Fleming and Tyler Mrkaich combined for 11 goals and 3 assists to power the Aggie offense.

A busy week in the rearview mirror, the Aggies head home to prepare for the upcoming Aggie Roundup.

"We're really looking forward to getting home and training at our home pool after so much time on the road," said UC Davis head coach Dan Leyson.

After months of renovations, Schaal Aquatics Center will be reopened for use next week, allowing Leyson's Aggies to reacquaint themselves with their local waters before hosting the home-opening tournament next weekend.
