DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis football team (2-2, 0-1) will make the trek south to San Luis Obispo to take on Cal Poly (2-2, 0-1) on Saturday Sept. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Mustang Memorial Field.
UC Davis holds a 26-20-2 record in the Battle of the Golden Horseshoe and are winners of the last six meetings. Aggie head coach
Dan Hawkins has never lost to the Mustangs and has outscored their rival to the south, 287-116 over that span.
In last year's meeting the Aggies exploded for 682 yards and 59 points to run away with the victory.
Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr. rushed for 136 yards and two scores and
Teddye Buchanan led the defense with two interceptions, including a 65-yard pick-six.
Miles Hastings threw for 425 yards and four touchdowns.
The Aggies are coming off a tough 27-24 loss to Eastern Washington in their Big Sky Conference opener.
Lan Larison put together the third best single-game rushing performance in program history when he compiled 255 yards on the ground. Larison had over 200 yards at the half.
The Idaho native leads the Big Sky in rushing by nearly over 100 yards as he has posted 479 yards on the ground and averaging 6.8 yards per carry with four scores. Overall, Larison has compiled a league-leading 605 all-purpose yards and averaging 151.3 yards per contest.
Also in the conference rankings is
Rex Connors who ranks second in the league with 9.7 tackles per game. The Utah native has posted 29 total tackles in three games played.
Despite the loss, the Ags remain in the rankings, checking in at No. 20 in the coaches' poll and No. 21 in the Stats Perform top-25.
The Aggie offense continues to get a lot involved as 12 different players have caught a pass in the first four games.
Trent Tompkins leads the group with 24 catches for 190 yards and a score. Tight end
Josh Gale leads the team with three touchdowns and 14.09 yards per catch.
UC Davis will return home to face Montana on Saturday, Oct. 7. The game will mark homecoming for the Aggies and the game will kick off at 4 p.m.
