Aggies Handle No. 20 Santa Clara, Pick Up Road Victory

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The UC Davis men's water polo team pulled away in the second half to earn an 18-10 road victory over the Santa Clara Broncos on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies improve their record to 6-2, while their former WWPA foe drop to 4-3 on the year.

Though the Aggies never trailed in the contest, the first half was a back-and-forth affair. Both teams traded goals for the first eight minutes and UC Davis entered the second period ahead by a goal, 5-4.

The Aggies entered the half leading 10-7 and finished the game on an 8-3 run.

Will Nomura, Aleix Aznar Beltran and Aaron Voggenthaler handled most of the scoring duties for the Aggies, each logging a hat trick, while Max Stryker, Logan Anderson and Tyler Mrkaich found the open man with consistency, combining for seven assists as a trio.

Beltran dished out three assists to finish with six points on the day, while Voggentaler was stout defensively with two steals and a pair of field blocks.

William Fosselman put in two quick goals to put the game firmly out of reach with a few minutes to go.

JT Kujawa continues to be a limited minute exclusion drawing machine, drawing three this afternoon in just six minutes of game time after having drawn three against Berkeley in eight minutes of play the day before. Kujawa leads the team in exclusions drawn with 22.

Sam Monette got the nod to start in the cage, finishing the game with nine saves and two assists.

The Aggies are back in action tomorrow against No. 2 UCLA. The matchup is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at home in Schaal Aquatics Center.
