Set 1
After a slow start to the opening set for UC Davis that saw the hosts race to a quick 6-2 advantage, the Aggies regained their footing behind some individual brilliance from
Jade Light who slammed home four kills and Diersbock's two service aces.
UC Davis erased the deficit quickly and flipped the script, roaring back for a 22-16 lead to force a Sacramento State timeout. The Aggies cruised the rest of the way, grabbing the 25-18 win in set one.
Set 2
The second set was similar to the first, but the Aggies rallied much earlier, using kills from Light, Utterback, and
Ally Chandler to spark a 6-1 scoring run in the middle of the frame. The Hornets managed to claw within two, but the lead would prove to be insurmountable and UC Davis made it a two-set lead after winning the frame 25-19.
Set 3
The Ags were unable to find their rhythm in the third set, hitting just .125 as a team. The hosts were able to make some adjustments and started to find some consistency on the offensive side of the ball, posting a .429 hitting percentage and committing just two attack errors on their way to the 25-15 win to force a fourth set.
Set 4
The fourth and final set would be the most hotly contested of the match. The two teams would trade points until back-to-back kills from Aimufua gave the Aggies some momentum and an early lead. UC Davis built a five-point advantage behind a kill and ace from Utterback, but Sacramento State would rally for four straight points to whittle the lead to just one.
A huge block from Chandler and Aimufua swung the momentum of the fourth set and the Aggies would regain their footing, roaring to the 25-21 win in the last set to defeat their cross-town rivals.
