DAVIS, Calif. – What was supposed to be a doubleheader at 1 p.m. turned into a series opening single contest on Saturday at La Rue Field. Inclement weather in the area caused the delay, but that did not prevent UC Davis (27-17, 13-9) from claiming the 2-0 win against Cal Poly (15-22, 8-14).
Kenedi Brown (15-8) went the distance for UC Davis, only giving up two hits and striking out six en route to her division I program record-tying 53rd complete game.
The two first inning runs were all Brown would need to secure her sixth shutout of the season. Anna Dethlefson once again set the table for the Aggies with a leadoff single up the middle. She promptly stole second to equal the program's division I record of 37 stolen bases in a single season. Leah Polson then walked, and after a Libbie McMahan sac-bunt, Sarah Starks drilled a two-run single up the middle.
Dethlefson went 2-for-3 with a double that also equals a single-season record. Starks' lone hit plated the two runs. Polson finished with two hits in her two trips to the plate while adding a walk.
The Aggies will conclude the series on Sunday with a doubleheader. The front end of the twin-bill will begin at 10 a.m.
