PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — UC Davis gave the top seeded Vanderbilt Commodores all they could handle, but ultimately fell 4-3 in the semifinal round of the Universal Tennis NIT Championships. The loss puts an end to one of the best seasons in Aggie program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Vanderbilt entered the tournament with only five available players due to several injuries and two players, Jeremie Casabon and Siim Troost, being ruled ineligible by the NCAA due to their upcoming participation in the NCAA Doubles Championship.

Conceding court 3, the Commodores picked up wins on 1 and 2 to secure the first point of the match.

UC Davis leveled the match with a walkover win on court 6, then gained a lead behind a straight set win on court 5 by Andras Necz.

The Aggies moved within a point of advancing to the championship match when Constantinos Djakouris defeated Vanderbilt's top singles player, Nathan Cox, in three sets. 

The Commodores responded with their backs against the wall, taking the next three courts in turn to secure the win.

LOOKING AHEAD
This marks the conclusion of the Aggies' 2022-2023 season. It was one of the best in program history, with a 15-8 overall record, a Big West Tri-Championship and semifinals appearances in both the Big West tournament and the Universal Tennis NIT.
