Aggies earn eight conference honors

IRVINE, Calif. – UC Davis junior Anna Dethlefson was named the Big West Conference Player of the Year, the league office announced Tuesday. The Aggies garnered eight total honors as the conference unveiled their postseason awards.

Dethlefson becomes the first Aggie in program history to earn Player of the Year honors from the Big West. The Fair Oaks native paced the conference in slugging percentage (.627), doubles (15), and stolen bases (40). She ranks second in batting average (.407), OPS (1.104), runs (43), and hits (61).

Her 40 stolen bases, 15 doubles and 94 total bases broke the program's division I single-season records. Dethlefson is just the second player in UC Davis division I single-season history to bat over .400 (.407).

Earlier this season, the righthander broke the program's career strikeout record as she enters the NISC with 603 punchouts. The Elk Grove native also broke the record of 53 career complete games and is one victory away from passing the mark of 47 wins.

Junior Sarah Starks nabbed all-conference honors for the second time in her career as she was named to the second team. Starks is hitting .299 with 13 doubles, three home runs and a team-leading 30 RBI. The Gilroy native is just behind Dethlefson in the single-season doubles record and is just two RBI shy from breaking the UCD division I career RBI record of 91.

Juniors Libbie McMahan and Bella Pahulu garnered honorable mention accolades. McMahan is tied for the team lead with four home runs and is second with 27 RBI. McMahan started all 49 games and is batting .250.

Pahulu ranks second on the squad with a career-best .321 average, adding two home runs and 14 RBI. Pahulu ranked third on the team during conference play with a .309 average and sported an on-base-percentage of .435.

Newcomers Caroline Grimes and Gia Felice were named to the All-Freshman Team. Grimes appeared in 16 games and made one start, sporting a 4-1 record and a 2.47 ERA. Grimes struck out 24 in 34 innings pitched. Felice played in 29 games and started in three. Used primarily as a pinch-runner in her rookie campaign, Felice scored nine runs.
