Honolulu, Hawai'i — The UC Davis Aggies got a boost from senior James Williams III, who totaled three hits in an 11-3 loss to the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Friday.
With the loss, the Rainbow Warriors were able to secure the series win over the Aggies, even after UC Davis scored first in both of the ballgames.
Kaden Hogan (2-2) started and took the loss on the mound for UC Davis (17-29, 7-16). In Hogan's second career start on the mound, he and the Aggie pitching was faced with a balance Hawaii offensive attack that scored in every inning from the third inning on.
As far as the offense goes, the Aggies were led by the aforementioned Williams III. In addition to his three hits, Williams III had a double and an RBI. Joey Wright put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, accounting for two of the Aggies four, extra base hits.. Leighton Helfrick also chipped in for UC Davis, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate, responsible for the final Aggie extra base hit as he added a double and an RBI.
The Aggies will have a day off before concluding the series on Sunday against the Rainbow Warriors.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Aggies got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. UC Davis scored twice, with one run coming across on Williams' single.
The Rainbow Warriors then rallied to score five runs and take a 5-2 lead before the Aggies got back on the board in the sixth. UC Davis pushed across a run on Helfrick's RBI double, which tightened the Rainbow Warriors lead to 5-3. The Aggies were unable to get any closer, as Hawaii added six runs to their tally on the way to an 11-3 final.
