Honolulu, Hawai'i — The Aggies had a tough showing in the series finale against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, ultimately falling short, 7-2.Â
The conclusion of the Hawai'i series drops the Aggies record this season to 17-30 overall, and 7-17 in the Big West with two more series to go in the 2023 season.
Despite the outcome today, there were a few standout performances on the field with Mark Wolbert shining offensively. Going 2-for-3 with a triple, he also drew a walk, demonstrating his patience and ability to get on base. His .383 on base percentage ranks second on the team, only trailing leadoff hitter, Damian Stone.
On the pitching side, Nate Freeman came in as relief and had an exceptional outing, throwing three scoreless innings and striking out four batters. His ability to keep the opposing team's hitters at bay allowed the Aggies to stay in the game and have a chance to mount a comeback.
The Aggies were also paced offensively by Nick Iverson. Iverson had a double and an RBI, and was able to drive in one of the Aggies' two runs with a clutch hit in the third inning. Wolbert and Iverson's contributions at the plate were important for the team, as they were able to get some runs on the board and put pressure on the Rainbow Warriors' pitching staff.
James Williams III also had a solid game, recording a hit and an RBI. His ability to drive in a run during the third was important for the team, as it allowed them to chip away at the deficit and stay within striking distance early on.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Although the Aggies were down 6-0 after the second inning, they were able to mount a rally in the third inning and score two runs. This was due in large part to Iverson's run-scoring double, which that helped spark the team's offense.
However, despite the Aggies' efforts in the third, the Rainbow Warriors were able to hold them off and add one more run to secure the 7-2 victory. While the outcome may not have been what the Aggies had hoped for, there were several positive takeaways from the game, including the impressive individual performances by Wolbert, Freeman, Iverson, and Williams III.Â

Just two more series left for the Aggies, UC Davis will travel to San Francisco for their last midweek game of the season, before hosting UC Irvine for the final home series of the season and Senior Day at the conclusion, to honor James Williams III, Nathan Peng, and Nate Freeman.
