Aggies Head to The Aloha State for Regular Season Finale

DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis softball team (27-19, 13-11 Big West) will play its final series of the regular season as the Aggies take on the University of Hawai'i (29-21, 12-12 Big West) in Big West Conference play. The series begins on Thursday, May 11 and will conclude with a doubleheader on Friday, May 12.

A LOOK AT HAWAI'I
Hawai'i enters the series with a 29-21 record overall and a 12-12 record in Big West Conference play. Maya Nakamura leads the team in batting average, hitting .390. Isabella Martinez and Nakamura lead the Rainbow Wahine in hits (48). Haley Johnson leads the team in RBI (40). As a team, they are averaging .269 on the season and have been outscored, 231-177. Brianna Lopez leads the Rainbow Wahine in the circle with a 2.30 ERA in 29 appearances. As a whole, the staff holds a 2.99 ERA and have a batting average against of .247.
 
LAST TIME OUT
For the second consecutive series, the Aggies fell two games to one– this time against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in Davis. Kenedi Brown had 10 strikeouts in the two games she pitched. Sarah Starks earned Student Athlete of the Week honors as she went 3-8 with 5 RBI and 2 runs scored. In game one on Sunday, Anna Dethlefson broke the Aggies' Division I single season stolen base record with her 38th of the season. The Aggies were outscored 10-6 by the Mustangs.
 
AROUND THE LEAGUE
The Aggies enter the weekend series tied for fourth in the Big West Conference standings alongside UC Santa Barbara. The Aggies rank in the top five in thirteen statistical categories. The Aggies lead the Big West Conference in doubles (59), doubles per game (1.28), hit batters (18) and stolen bases per game (1.52). Offensively, Anna Dethlefson leads the conference in doubles per game (0.30), stolen bases (38) and stolen bases per game (0.86). For the third consecutive week, Grace Kilday leads the Big West Conference in caught stealing by (13) and is, for the second consecutive week, 18th in the nation in that category.

RECORD WATCH
The Aggies have enjoyed a record-breaking season and more may fall in the series final at Hawai'i. Sarah Starks, who already holds the program's D1 record for career home runs with 20, enters the series with 90 career RBI. The record is 91 held by Ashley Lotoszynski. Starks is also one double away from tying the single season record of 13. Anna Dethelfson hit her 13th double on the season last weekend and also broke the single season record with her 38th stolen base. In the circle, the career strikeout leader Kenedi Brown is one complete game away form breaking the record of 53 and is two victories away from passing the mark of 47 wins. Taylor Fitzgerald is in the hunt to break the career and single season walks per seven innings records.

WINNING SEASON
The Aggies have secured their first winning season since the COVID-shortened campaign in 2020. During that season the Ags finished 16-12. In 2019, UC Davis enjoyed a stellar 39-14 season, its best during the program's division I era.
