Two home runs not enough as Aggies fall to Pacific

Davis, Calif. — A pair of home runs was not enough for UC Davis on Tuesday. The Aggies plated five runs, but could not hold the Pacific Tigers at bay, and were bested 6-5 in the last home midweek game of the season at Dobbins Stadium.

Starting for the Aggies was two-way freshman, Braydon Wooldridge who threw two hitless innings, recording two strikeouts in the process. Zach Romero (2-1) came out of the bullpen for UC Davis (14-22) and took the loss.

At the plate, the Aggies were paced by sophomore Nick Leehey, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Joey Wright also supplied the power for the Aggies today, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Junior Jack Gallagher continued swinging a hot bat, as he joined Leehey as the other Aggie to record multiple hits. Gallagher put together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Aggies were trailing 4-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. UC Davis plated two runs when Wright left the yard with junior Nick Iverson aboard.

The Tigers expanded their lead to 5-2 before the Aggies offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the sixth. UC Davis scored twice on Leehey's two-run homer, which brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Tigers.

UC Davis held the Tigers off the board before rallying to tie it up at five in the seventh. The Aggies scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Alex Gouveia. Gouveia brought home the racing Damian Stone who scored all the way from first on a ball that squibbled past the shortstop.

Pacific then scored in the last inning off a wildpitch and would break the tie to grab the 6-5 win.
