Aggies Drop Heartbreaker in 11 Innings at UC Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, Calif. — A standout, 3-for-5 performance from Nick Iverson was not enough to lift the Aggies as UC Davis fell 6-5 in an 11-inning matchup to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos Friday night.

Despite a tough loss, UC Davis baseball showed its competitive spirit with several standout performances. The aforementioned Iverson led the way offensively with a phenomenal 3-for-5 at the plate, including two doubles and three RBI. Adding a boost offensively, the Aggie captain also made one of the best defensive plays of the Aggie season when he threw out the potential winning run in the bottom of the 11th to keep the Aggie's hopes alive.

Junior Jack Gallagher came through with what many thought to be the game winning runs for UC Davis after slugging a home run in the top of the 10th, securing two RBI in the process. With Gallagher and Iverson collecting all the RBIs tonight, the Aggies bottom half of the order also aided in their efforts. For UC Davis, the 5-through-9 batters recorded 10 of the Aggies 11 hits, with Nick Leehey, Joey Wright and Theo Forshey; who made his long awaited return to the lineup; all record big hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the second inning, the Aggies jumped ahead with Iverson's RBI single, which scored Forshey from third base. Though UCSB took a 3-1 lead, UC Davis rallied in the sixth inning to even the score at 3-3 with a clutch two-run double off the bat of Iverson again, that brought home senior James Williams III and Leehey.

UC Davis took the lead in the tenth inning with Gallagher's two-run homer to right, resulting in a 5-3 advantage. Despite the hard-fought effort, UCSB was able to score three times in the remaining inning, resulting in a 6-5 victory for the Gauchos.

While Kaden Riccomini took the loss, Danny Carrion stood out with a solid two scoreless innings pitched, allowing just two hits, with one walk and one strikeout. Wright also contributed with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate, including two doubles and a walk. Overall, the Aggies displayed their talent and tenacity in a closely contested game against one of the most formidable Big West opponents.

The Aggies will regroup tomorrow against the Gauchos with first pitch set for 4:05 P.M. PT.
