NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The UC Davis softball team fell to CSUN, 7-5, Saturday in the series finale between the two teams. The Aggies secured their third-straight conference series victory despite the loss and move to 24-13 overall and 10-5 in Big West play.
Sarah Nakahara's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day and included two doubles and a walk. Junior Sarah Starks continued her hot play in league actions, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Anna Dethlefson added one hit in two trips to the plate while walking twice.
The Aggies were trailing 5-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Junior Libbie McMahan's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for UC Davis.
The Aggies kept the Matadors off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fourth. UC Davis managed to push across two runs in the inning, which tightened the Matadors lead to 5-4.
CSUN expanded its lead to 7-4 before the UC Davis offense got going, reducing that lead to 7-5 in the seventh. The Aggies scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Starks. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.
UC Davis will return home to host UC San Diego for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 22.
