Aggies Stay Hot; Claim Series Over CSUN

NORTHRIDGE – The UC Davis softball team continued its winning ways and claimed its third-straight Big West Conference series with a doubleheader sweep on Friday. The Aggies shutout the Matadors in game one, 3-0, and then won the nightcap, 3-1. After the day the Ags move to 24-12 overall and 10-4 in conference play.

GAME 1 | UC Davis 3, CSUN 0
Junior Kenedi Brown continued her standout season, throwing a one-hit shutout to lead UC Davis over CSUN, 3-0.

Brown (13-5) went the distance for UC Davis, giving up one hit, walking three and striking out 11.

Offensively, the Aggies were led by Anna Dethlefson, who went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI. Bella Pahulu went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

The Aggies took the lead for good in the third, scoring for the first time in the inning. UCD got an RBI single from Dethlefson, plating Gia Felice.

The Aggies then tacked on runs in the fifth inning when they scored two times. A run-scoring double from Pahulu broke the game open.

GAME 2 | UC Davis 3, CSUN 1
The Aggies took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 3-1 win and series victory.

Freshman Caroline Grimes (4-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for UC Davis. The right-hander went five shutout innings while giving up two hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

Rylie Costa led the way offensively for the Aggies, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. Dethlefson continued her hot play, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Sarah Nakahara went a perfect 2-for-2 and added a walk.

The Aggies got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Dethlefson came across to score the lone run of the inning for UC Davis and get them on the board.

The Aggies then held the Matadors scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. UC Davis scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Costa, which brought the Aggies lead to 2-0.

CSU Northridge narrowed UC Davis' lead to 2-1 before the Aggies stretched the advantage to 3-1 in the sixth inning. The score remained 3-1 for the rest of the game, as UC Davis held on for the win.

The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow at Noon.
