Davis, Calif. — UC Davis had the bats working as they outhit the Titans but ultimately, fell to Cal State Fullerton 6-4 Saturday.
Sophomore Mark Wolbert led the hit barrage for the Aggies, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with two RBI. Junior Damian Stone compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Two other Aggies found themselves collecting multiple base hits as Alex Gouveia, and Braydon Wooldridge each had a pair of hits.
On the mound, the Aggies got 5.2 innings of work from sophomore Bryan Green, who allowed four runs, three of which were earned. The left hander also recorded three strikeouts surrendering two hits, and walking four Titans. Following up Green was Kaden Hogan (0-1) who took the loss for UC Davis (6-12, 1-4). Hogan punched out three Titans in his appearance and allowed two runs to come across before giving way to Danny Carrion who threw 1.2 innings of shutout baseball.
The Aggies picked up runs in the fifth and the seventh to keep them in business for most of the game but the story of the game came down to the Titans ability to get clutch hits. Only recording six hits on the day, the Titans had all but one of their hits come without runners on. Another achilles heel for the Aggies today was their two-out hitting, as UC Davis finished the day 0-7 in situations with two outs. The Aggies left eight runners on base and at the conclusion, Cal State Fullerton used a four run sixth inning to catapult them to victory and secure the series for the Titans.
The Aggies and Titans will square off one more time, tomorrow at 1 P.M. to conclude the series.
