Aggies Grab Pair of Wins at Triton Invite

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC Davis picked up a pair of wins over No. 24 CSUN and No. 21 San Diego State in a terrific day for the Aggies at the Triton Invite.

UC Davis (3-4) dominated from start-to-finish in its 16-5 victory over Big West Conference foes CSUN. The Aggies scored five straight goals in the first period and never looked back, handling the Matadors with ease.

The Aggies were matched up against No. 21 San Diego State for their afternoon matchup. It was a hotly contested game that saw both teams trade goals until the second half when UC Davis rattled off seven unanswered goals to seal the 11-5 win over the Aztecs.

Noëlle Wijnbelt and Gianna Nocetti were lively on the attack with four goals each to lead the Aggies' offensively. Sam Yoo was especially impressive in the win over CSUN, posting a hat trick. Also enjoying a three-goal day was Tess Fundter, scoring twice against San Diego State and adding another goal against CSUN.

Sophia Noble was excellent in goal, making nine saves in the morning contest before tallying a season-high 14 stops in the afternoon win.

It was a full team effort as UC Davis featured five different goal-scorers in the early minutes, with Ally Clague, Alyssa Lengtat, Hailey Williams, Fundter, and Nocetti etching their names on the scoresheet.

A converted five-meter attempt from Yoo gave the Aggies their first goal in the second period before Wijnbelt and Kelly Hungerford extended the lead before halftime.

UC Davis continued to pull away with three straight goals in the third period, with Madison Sparre finding the back of the cage for her first goal of the day.

Capping off her outstanding performance in the fourth quarter was Yoo, scoring twice to complete the hat trick and seal the victory for her team.
