UC Davis Notches Third Consecutive Victory

IRVINE, Calif. – UC Davis wrapped up the BK Invite with a 11-7 victory over Loyola Marymount on Sunday morning, tallying its third straight win.

The Aggies conclude a terrific weekend where they earned three wins, all coming against ranked opponents.

It was a fairly even contest, but UC Davis (10-8) out-shot the Lions 31-28 and were much more clinical with its chances to edge the victory.

Ally Clague shined with her third multi-goal game of the season, finding the back of the cage three times to lead the Aggies offensively.

Hailey Williams continued her excellent weekend with a pair of goals in the contest while Sam Yoo led UC Davis with four total points, dishing out three assists and notching a game-sealing goal in the closing stages of the match.

Sophia Noble was reliable as ever in goal, making eight saves with a save percentage of .533.

How It Happened
Ashley Salem got her team on the board with a goal at the 5:21 mark, giving the Aggies an early lead. LMU would level the game at 1-1 before Williams and Grace Pelkey fired UC Davis into the lead, and the Aggies would hold a 3-2 advantage after one.

The Lions replied with the first goal of the second quarter, but Clague started to catch fire by converting on a power-play opportunity to restore the lead. Alyssa Lengtat netted a five-meter chance just before the end of the half, making it 5-4 at the break in the back-and-forth affair.

After Head Coach Kandace Waldthaler made some adjustments at halftime, the Aggies took full control by scoring four consecutive goals in the third period. Clague hit the Lions for back-to-back goals, completing her hat trick, before Williams and Noëlle Wijnbelt  found the back of the cage. This allowed UC Davis to build a three-goal cushion going into the last eight minutes.

The Aggies clamped down on the defensive end, holding LMU to just one goal in the fourth quarter. Morgan Polterock and Yoo registered a goal each down the stretch, giving UC Davis some much-needed breathing room to cruise to the 11-7 victory, capping off a fantastic 3-1 weekend, with all three wins coming against ranked opponents.

Up Next
After a week off, the Aggies begin Big West action when they head to Northridge, Calif. to take on CSUN on March 10. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
