DAVIS, Calif. — In the spirit of holiday camaraderie, UC Davis and Sacramento State have set aside their cross-causeway rivalry to partner with
Mother Lode Van & Storage to run food drives at three November UC Davis-Sacramento State athletic competitions. The first drive was held on Nov. 18 at the Causeway Classic football game, and was followed by a drive at the Sacramento State hosted women's basketball game on Nov. 21. The charitable effort was capped off at the University Credit Union Center on Nov. 26 when the UC Davis men's basketball team hosted the Hornets.
Approximately 750 pounds of food items were donated by supporters across the three game-day food drives. The collections were divided equally and donated to the Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Food Pantry at Sacramento State, and the ASUCD Food Pantry.
Both food pantries are dedicated to providing food and other necessities at no cost to students with low food security who find themselves choosing between basic essentials and the required costs of college. The pantries are funded and stocked almost entirely by community donations.
