Turner Secures Double-Double; UC Davis falls to Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Evanne Turner posted a double-double in what was her best performance of the season, but it wasn't enough, as last season's PAC-12 tournament champions Washington State remained unbeaten inside Beasley Coliseum in its 77-52 win on Friday night.

Evanne Turner poured in a season-high 20 points while grabbing a team-high boards in an excellent night for the senior. She netted four of her eight attempts from deep and went 8-of-19 from the field.

In addition to Turner's impressive performance, the Aggies (2-5) were led by Megan Norris, who totaled five points, nine rebounds and two blocks, and by Tova Sabel, who added six points. Sydney Burns notched nine points while making three of her six shots on the night.

How It Happened
A pair of three-pointers from Megan Norris and Evanne Turner got the Aggies started offensively, but the hosts enjoyed a hot start to take a 10-6 lead in the early minutes of the first quarter. Turner's second triple of the period brought the Aggies within two at the first media timeout. Despite going just 3-of-13 from the floor, UC Davis trailed by just six after one.

Sydney Burns opened the second quarter scoring with four consecutive points before Lena Svanholm nailed a jumper from the elbow to keep pace with Washington State. However, UC Davis would enter a three-minute scoring drought that allowed the Cougars to extend their lead to double-digits. Turner buried her third three-ball as the guard nearly completed her first-half double-double with nine points and nine boards, but the hosts would carry a 30-19 lead into the locker room.

Burns' driving layup cut the lead to single digits just after the second half tip-off before Turner scored back-to-back lay-ins of her own. The Ags managed to hang around when baskets and Sabel and Nya Epps kept this close before Svanholm knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to make it an eight-point game.

After Turner hit a tightly contested jumper, the Aggies found themselves down by just three points with over a minute left in the third quarter. Washington State closed the period on a 4-0 run and went into the last 10 minutes with a seven-point (49-42) advantage.

It was all Cougars in the final quarter after posting a 15-2 run during a five-minute stretch and ultimately out-scoring UC Davis 28-10 to cruise to the 77-52 win on Friday night.
