DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis football team returned to their winning ways as the Aggies took down Portland State, 37-23, Saturday at UC Davis Health Stadium. The win moves the Aggies to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in Big Sky play.
Lan Larison rushed for 136 yards and three scores to lead a running attack the totaled 219 yards on the ground.
Miles Hastings threw for 246 yards and a touchdown and
Samuel Gbatu, Jr. hauled in four passes for 70 yards and a score.
Kavir Bains registered 12 total tackles, including nine solo stops. The Aggies posted 465 total yards in the winning effort.
The Aggies got the scoring going late in the first quarter when Larison took a direct snap four yards for his fifth rushing touchdown of the season.
UCD extended its lead to 14-0 on the first drive of the second quarter. Hastings found Gbatu, Jr. in the corner of the endzone from five yards out to post his third receiving touchdown of the year.
After a PSU touchdown, the Ags added on a field goal to end the half and head into the locker room with a 17-7 lead.
The Vikings evened the score in the third quarter at 17-17. With the Aggies marching to start the final frame, freshman
Zach Jones scored on an eight-yard rush. The touchdown was his first career collegiate offensive carry in a UCD uniform.
The Ags extended their lead when Larison found paydirt for the second time of the game, this time on a 14-yard scamper.
Larison struck for his third and final score to give the Aggies a 37-23 lead late on a five-yard run.
UC Davis will hit the road for the final time in the regular season as the Aggies face Idaho State on Saturday, Nov. 11 in Pocatello. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT.
