ST. GEORGE, Utah. — The UC Davis swim team finished out the three-day Utah Tech Trailblazer Invite by setting a new school record in the 400 Free Relay. Katie McLain, Sophi MacKay, Christy Douglas and Naomi Boegholm swam 16 laps in 3:20.55, besting the previous record of 3:20.66 set in 2011. The Aggies finished the meet second out of eight teams, just behind leader UC San Diego.

DAY 1

The Aggies began the weekend by nearly breaking the school record in the 200 Free relay. 

Naomi Boegholm, Christy Douglas, Kailee Ruiz and Katie McLain combined to swim eight laps in 1:31.75, just a tenth of a second shy of the current record time set in 2019. 

UC Davis finished the evening second in the eight team field with 217.5 team points, just behind first place UC San Diego. 

In total, UC Davis had four other top five times in addition to the 200 Free relay. Boegholm finished second in the 50 Free (23.07) while McLain finished right behind in third (23.22). The 400 Medley relay team came in third with a time of 3:43.91 and Brynn Graham swam to fifth place in the 200 IM (2:04.16).

DAY 2

The Aggies solidified their top two meet standing with a strong second day at the Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational. 

Propelled by a 200 Medley relay win to start the evening finals, the Aggies finished day two with 520.5 points, less than 80 behind meet leader UC San Diego and 130 points ahead of third place Fresno State. 

Emily Scheberies, Sam Rhodes, Naomi Boegholm and Christy Douglas led the winning relay effort with a total time of 1:40.94.

UC Davis had a top five finish in four other events on the day. Paige Dailey earned third place in the 100 Breast (1:03.13), Brynn Graham was fourth in the 400 IM (4:23.72) and Boegholm was fifth in the 100 Fly (55.66). The 800 Free relay squad made up of Kailee Ruiz, Elena Gingras, Elsie Luisetti and Gabi Bellin finished second with a time of 7:26.65.

DAY 3

UC Davis began their record breaking day with strong races in the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast and 200 Fly.

Elena Gingras swam to seventh place in the mile freestyle (17:25.62) to begin the final day of the meet. Anagha Kondury (2:00.97) and Ella Palmer (2:02.12) added top ten times in the 200 Back. 

The four members of the record-breaking 400 Free relay squad all slotted in the top ten of the 100 Free earlier in the day. Boegholm led the group with a 50.18 for fourth place in the event. McLain finished fifth (50.75), Douglas sixth (50.98) and MacKay ninth (51.02). 

Sam Rhodes (2:16.34), Haley Hoefer (2:18.26) and Paige Dailey (2:22.35) all secured top ten times in the 200 Breast, while Ellie Heit came in tenth in the 200 Fly (2:05.01).

The record-breaker quartet topped the field in the 400 Free relay, but the 'B' squad wasn't far behind as Gabi Bellin, Anna Boyer, Elsie Luisetti and Kailee Ruiz swam a 3:25.48 for fourth place. 

UC Davis is back in action on Jan. 12 when the Aggies visit Cal Poly for a conference dual meet.
