Aggies Return to Davis for First Home Matches of 2023

DAVIS, Calif. – After a 14-game road trip to start the 2023 season, UC Davis volleyball finally returns to the new floor at the University Credit Union Center to host a pair of Big West matchups.

TALE OF THE TAPE
Oct. 5 vs. Cal Poly | 6 p.m. | Davis, Calif. | Live Stats | Live Video
Cal Poly has largely dominated the all-time series and ride a 12-match win streak into Wednesday's contest. The Aggies' last win over the Mustangs came in November of 2015, a four-set victory in Davis. San Luis Obispo's team has also enjoyed a strong start to its conference slate, winning three of its first four matches to post a 3-1 record, with the only defeat coming in five sets at Long Beach State. Tommi Stockham leads her team with 201 total kills which ranks third in the Big West while Kate Slack's 73 blocks places her at second in the conference.

Oct. 7 vs. UC Santa Barbara | 1 p.m. | Davis, Calif. | Live Stats
The Aggies will face a tough task on Saturday afternoon as the 14-2 (4-0 Big West) Gauchos make their way to the University Credit Union Center. UC Santa Barbara received votes in the most recent AVCA top-25 poll as it has shown its class all season long, with one of its two defeats coming to No. 6 Oregon. The Gauchos have won via the sweep seven times in 2023 and are currently undefeated in away contests. First Team All-Big West recipient Michelle Ohwobete is off to another incredible start in her senior season, leading the conference with 217 kills.

LAST WEEK
UC Davis remains unbeaten in Big West play following another perfect weekend in Southern California, taking down Cal State Bakersfield and CSUN.
In the win over the Roadrunners, the Aggies were firing on all cylinders, posting a team hitting percentage of .304 which is the second-best mark of the year for UC Davis. With 14 service aces on the night, the Ags match a season-high as they enjoyed a fantastic game on the service line.

In its final game of the grueling road trip to start the 2023 season, the "road warriors" of UC Davis volleyball earned its six consecutive victory to stay perfect in Big West Conference play, defeating CSUN in four sets on Saturday afternoon.

HISTORIC START
The win over CSUN marks the Aggies' longest win streak since 2018 when Davis' team rattled off seven straight victories. UC Davis also posts its best-ever start to the conference slate since joining the Big West in 2007.

EYES ON THE PRIZE
The Big West will feature a postseason conference tournament for the first time in the conference's history following the 2023 regular season. This brand-new championship event will reward the winner with the league's automatic big into the field of the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. The Aggies will hope to be playing their best volleyball Nov. 22-25 in Long Beach for the inaugural conference tournament.

LIVing UP TO THE HYPE
Headlining an experienced group of returning talent will be Olivia Utterback who was named to the 2023 Big West Preseason Coaches' Team. The opposite from Plainfield, Ind. finished second on the team with 265 kills and 335 points. She posted a team-high 35 service aces in 2022 and will bring a veteran presence to the Aggies' locker room.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
UC Davis has added seven talented freshmen to the roster who look to break onto the scene in their first seasons wearing the Blue and Gold.
Two middle blockers, Ally Chandler and Allie Caldwell, will compete for significant playing time at the position while Breeze Czapinski, Reese Diersbock, Rachel Dunagan, and Brooke Hibino will provide depth at outside hitter. Mia Starr rounds out the group of the newcomers as the lone setter of the 2023 signing class.
