DAVIS, Calif. — The Aggies (15-6, 3-0) took care of business on Senior Night, defeating the Cal State Fullerton Titans (16-10, 0-2), 17-8, in front of a packed house at Schaal Aquatics Center. The win is UC Davis' eighth in a row and third conference win of the season.
The main event of the evening was the Senior Night celebration, as Aggie seniors Aaron Wilson, Aaron Voggenthaler, Ben Fleming, Logan Anderson and Max Stryker were all recognized for their achievements as Aggies and their contributions to the program in their time on campus.
"We spend so much time together—countless hours—to see them finally play in their last home game is bittersweet. It's a relationship that has developed over so much time and you see their growth as humans and as water polo players," UC Davis head coach Dan Leyson said.
"I'll be sad to see them go and I'm happy for what they've done and I'm thankful for all the work they've put in and I wish them nothing but the best," Leyson said.
The game, played under the lights, was heavily offensive as the Fullerton offense allowed the visitors to hang around through much of the contest. The Aggies finished the first quarter ahead 5-3 and went into the half with a four goal advantage, 10-6.
Fullerton continued to put up a fight, scoring back-to-back after a three goal run from Aleix Aznar Beltran, Will Nomura and Anderson extended the lead to seven for UC Davis.
The Aggies ended the night strong, posting four goals and shutting out the Titans in the fourth quarter to finish off a nine-goal victory.
Beltran and Voggenthaler finished the night with four goals apiece, while Anderson contributed a hat trick. Stryker tallied two goals and pushed his conference leading season assist total to 43 with four assists tonight.
Will Nomura and JT Kujawa each drew three exclusions, which helped provide the Aggies with 14 six-on-five opportunities.
Next up on the schedule for the Aggies is No. 3 Stanford. The Aggies travel to Avery Aquatics Center for a 12:00 p.m. game on Sunday, Oct. 22.
