BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The UC Davis swim and dive team outscored Cal State Bakersfield and Cal Poly in every event of the afternoon en route to a dominant victory on Friday at the Cal State Bakersfield Sprint Classic. The meet was the first of the season against outside competition for the Aggies.

UC Davis finished the day with 975 points, more than twice the Roadrunners' 485 and the Mustangs' 377. 

Overall, 21 different Aggies placed in the top three across 13 events, with 12 different Aggies coming in first. 

Katie McLain led the way with three first place finishes and a second place result. McLain won the 50 free, swimming a 23.98, and was a member of the winning 200 free and 200 medley relays.

The Aggie freshman class had themselves a career debut to remember, as 11 UC Davis newcomers were top three finishers. Naomi Boegholm placed first in the 50 fly and 200 free relay in addition to a second place result in the 50 free. Emily Scheberies pitched in with a 26.41 to win the 50 back, placed second in the 100 back and led off the winning 200 medley relay squad.

On the 1-meter diving board, Leila Busch scored a 254.05 to take the event's top spot, while sophomore Mackenzie Young placed third with a 244.85.

The Aggies stick around another day for a second meet in Bakersfield, the CSUB Roadrunner Invite, which begins at 10:00 a.m.
