RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Davis got back in the win column and notched its third victory in Big West conference play when
Megan Norris led the Aggies to a 60-48 win over hosts UC Riverside.
UC Davis (7-10, 3-4) was dominant from start to finish in a brilliant offensive display that saw the Aggies deliver their most efficient shooting night of the season. Head Coach
Jennifer Gross had her team moving the ball extremely effectively as UC Davis was constantly finding open looks, posting a season-best field goal percentage of 52.1% while registering their second-best mark from beyond the arc at 42.1%
Norris put in an excellent performance on both ends of the floor as she picked up her second double-double of the year, pouring in 14 points and grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. The forward was 6-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range. Earning her second start of the season,
Tova Sabel also reached double figures with 14 points and five rebounds on 6-of-14 shooting.
Evanne Turner dropped nine points while going 4-of-8 from the floor and
Mazatlan Harris chipped in with eight point and three boards.
UC Davis controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Highlanders 45-22 and clamped down the defensive end, holding the hosts to 30.6% from the floor.
How It Happened
The Aggies came out firing in the opening period as Norris buried her first three-ball of the night to give her team an early lead. Norris dropped in a layup in transition following a Turner jumper and the Aggies found themselves leading by seven points.
UC Davis extended the lead to double-digits in the second quarter after an 8-0 sparked by baskets from
Victoria Baker, Sabel, and Norris.
Nya Epps and Sabel knocked down a pair of threes to keep UC Riverside at bay and the Aggies would take a 30-19 lead into the break.
Norris and Sabel continued to take over offensively by combining for six straight points to start the third period. Sabel exploded for nine points in the quarter and UC Davis would take a nine-point lead (43-34) into the final 10 minutes.
Another quick scoring run put the Aggies out of sight in the fourth quarter as Turner dropped five quick points while Harris added a layup. UC Davis would lead by as many as 17 points in the final quarter and cruised to the 60-48 win to snap the two-game skid.
