Aggies Suffer Setback in Conference Action

FULLERTON, Calif. – UC Davis was unable to extend the win streak to three games as Cal State Fullerton came away with the 67-51 victory inside Titan Gym.

The Aggies (6-9, 2-3) couldn't find the shooting stroke in Southern California, shooting just 31.5% from the floor and 24.5% from three-point range. The Titans (7-8, 2-4) were clicking on the offensive end and posted a team field goal percentage of 52% while hitting six of their 10 shots from beyond the arc.

Freshman Nya Epps shined on a tough day for the Aggies, scoring a career-high 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting with two three-pointers. Evanne Turner tallied nine points in the contest while Megan Norris and Sydney Burns each contributed eight points to the cause.

How It Happened
Cal State Fullerton came out firing and raced to a 12-2 run to start the contest. UC Davis replied when Norris finished off three consecutive layups to get the Aggies started offensively. The Titans would maintain their advantage after 10 minutes, but Epps knocked down her first three ball of the day to cut the lead to single digits.

Epps and Norris added a pair of layups before Turner buried a three from the corner to whittle the lead to just five points. However, Cal State Fullerton took charge yet again and managed an 11-point cushion at the break after netting a layup at the halftime buzzer.

Following an 11-4 run to start the third quarter, the Titans pushed the lead to 18 points. Four free throws from Sydney Burns and Turner momentarily closed the gap but UC Davis would still have quite the hill to climb in the final period.

The Aggies started to find some rhythm when they splashed three triples to start the fourth quarter. Tess Sussman, Campbell Gray, and Epps stroked three shots from deep to bring the visitors within striking distance but it would prove to be too little, too late as Cal State Fullerton held off UC Davis and earned the 67-51 win on its home court.
