Sussman's Career Night Leads Aggies to Second Straight Win

DAVIS, Calif. – Tess Sussman poured in a career-high 19 points and notched her second double-double of the season to lead UC Davis past CSUN on Wednesday night inside the University Credit Union Center.

The Aggies (6-8, 2-2) make it back-to-back victories in Big West play and hand the Matadors (4-11, 3-2) their second straight defeat.

Sussman led the way with 19-points while going 5-of-7 from three-point range. The graduate student also pulled down 10 boards in her 31 minutes. Evanne Turner found the shooting touch and matched the game high with 19 points and five three-pointers of her own. Also reaching double figures was Megan Norris who racked up 11 points to go with her game-high five assists.

UC Davis enjoyed its best shooting night of the season, posting a season-best field-goal percentage of 50.9% and 53.8% from beyond the arc. The Aggies made a season-high 14 three-pointers in the contest.

How It Happened

The visitors opened the contest on a 5-0 run but the Aggies roared back into the game with Turner's five consecutive points. Sussman knocked down her first three ball of the night before Sydney Burns buried a triple of her own. UC Davis shot 50% from the floor in the first period and managed a 17-13 lead after 10 minutes.

Freshman Nya Epps found the bottom of the net to keep the momentum alive in the second quarter and made it five straight points after finishing off a brilliant pass from Campbell Gray. Tova Sabel and Norris added a pair of layups and the Aggies found themselves leading by 18 points, taking a 43-25 lead into the locker room.

Sussman retained the hot hand in the second half by converting her first shot from perimeter, giving UC Davis its largest lead of the game. Turner swished two more three-pointers to keep CSUN at bay and the Aggies held a 17-point advantage with one quarter left to play.

Sussman continued to take over on the offensive end and tallied five more points in the fourth quarter. Norris converted a pair of lay-ins but the Matadors would muster a 7-0 run to stay within striking distance. However, Turner's step-back three proved to be the dagger and UC Davis grabbed the 83-73 win.
