Davis, Calif. -
Emma Vane and
Francesca Van Norden scored a goal each to lead UC Davis to its first win since week two of the season with a 2-1 victory over Oregon State on Sunday afternoon.
The win was UC Davis' first over Oregon State in three previous meetings against the Beavers and the first by UC Davis over a Pac-12 opponent in the history of the program. In 13 prior chances, the Aggies last came closest with a 1-1 tie at Cal in 2018.
Van Norden scored in the 26th minute off an assist from
Jayde Holley that gave the Aggies an early lead. Oregon State got the equalizer in the 38th minute on a long distance strike to the upper left of the goal. A third-year junior, it was Van Norden's first career goal and first career point.
Vane put the Aggies ahead in the 75th minute, getting a takeaway near the front of the box and firing a strike of her own for her first goal of the season.
UC Davis' defensive unit stood tall against 16 shots and eight corners for the Beavers, conceding just the one goal that came from well outside the box.
The win was UC Davis' first since upsetting No. 5 Santa Clara on Aug. 21 and brings the Aggies' record to 3-2-1 with just one more contest before the first Big West game of the season arrives.
The Aggies will host Boise State on Sept. 8 as part of a double-header with UC Davis' men's team before playing their first Big West game at Hawai'i on Sept. 15.
