DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis defensive back Rex Connors was named the Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Week and the FedEx Ground National Freshman Player of the Week, both organizations announced on Monday.
Connors put together one of the finest defensive performances in recent memory for the Aggies. Against No. 2 ranked South Dakota State on the road, Connors registered 17 total tackles, including 10 solo stops in the defensive slugfest.
On top of his 17 tackles, the Pleasant Grove, Utah native added two interceptions as the initial takeaway was the first of his Aggie career. The 17 total tackles are the most in a game in program history since at least 2007. The 17 total tackles also currently rank fourth in the FCS in a single game this season.
The redshirt freshman enters the home opener against San Diego with a team-leading 24 total tackles. His 13 solo tackles are tied for the team lead while the 6-1 defensive back has added his two picks and assisted on 11 tackles.
UC Davis opens its home slate against the University of San Diego on Saturday, Sept. 17 at UC Davis Health Stadium. The contest against the Toreros will kickoff at 7 p.m. and will mark Welcome Back and Orientation.
The Aggies will play five regular season home games at the newly resurfaced UC Davis Health Stadium. Single game tickets are on sale now, and season tickets are still available. For more information, click HERE or call 530-752-2471.
