Fregoso scores third-fastest goal in program history but Aggies tie Hornets

Sacramento, Calif. - Leslie Fregoso scored the third-fastest goal in program history on Thursday afternoon but UC Davis (2-2-1) drew 1-1 with Sacramento State in Sacramento.

Fregoso took the ball away in the center of the Hornets' box just 40 seconds into the game, the fastest Aggie score in the last six seasons.

Sacramento State were able to get the equalizer in the 19th minute but the Aggies continued to press, outshooting the Hornets 16-9 for the game and 9-2 in the second half. A game that turned chippy in the second half, referees issued eight total cards - including five over a 3:50 span in the second half on an unseasonably warm day that saw temperatures on the field rise above 100 degrees.

The Aggies begin a two-game homestand on Sunday against Oregon State, a game that was moved from noon to 10 a.m. to combat more high temperatures forecasted throughout the week. UC Davis remain at home to host Boise State on Sept. 8 before beginning the Big West portion of the schedule on Sept. 15 at Hawai'i.
