Northridge, Calif. - UC Davis opened a three-game set against the CSUN Matadors on Friday, falling 1-9 in Northridge.
Mark Wolbert lead the Aggies at the plate, going 3-4 with UC Davis' one run and two doubles.
Luke Piazza drove in Wolbert in the ninth, going the other way on a first pitch single to right field after entering as a pinch hitter in the seventh.
Wolbert continues to lead UC Davis with his average back up above .350 at .353 with a .986 OPS.
Nate Freeman pitched the bulk of the afternoon, entering in the third inning and going six innings with four earned runs allowed and six strikeouts. The strikeout total tied a season-high while Freeman went at least six innings for the sixth time in his last seven appearances.
UC Davis trailed 0-3 after the first inning but the Matadors did not add on again until scoring an unearned run in the fourth. CSUN added three runs in the sixth and two in the eighth to pull away.
The series continues on Saturday at Matador Field with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
