UC Davis recognized by NCEA with Team Sportsmanship award

Davis, Calif. - UC Davis was recognized by collegiate equestrian's governing body, the National Collegiate Equestrian Association, as the 2022 NCEA Team Sportsmanship award winner on Tuesday.

The 2022 award was voted on by member coaches and based upon how well UC Davis meets were run as well as how accomodating and welcoming the Aggies were to visiting teams.

"A lot of that goes back to our student-athletes and parent booster club," head coach Jessie Weisinger said. "Our student-athletes are extremely friendly and our parent group goes above and beyond to make the away team feel at home when they are at our place."

"We always love on and thank the horses even if the ride didn't go our way and make sure to thank the host school.  This is one thing I am big on. As coaches, we try to lead by example because I feel like the student-athletes mimic how you handle and react to things."

UC Davis is coming off a 2021-22 season in which Weisinger and her staff led the Aggies to the best season in the program's four-year history at UC Davis. The Aggies posted a school record four wins and their first postseason win, advancing to the ECAC Conference Championship semifinal. Sierra Gundersen became the first Aggie in school history to be named to an NCEA All-America team when she was named a second team All-American in flat.
