DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis softball team dropped a doubleheader to CSUN Friday afternoon at La Rue Field. The Aggies dropped the opener, 3-1, and then fell in the second contest, 7-2. After the day, UC Davis moves to 16-18 overall and 6-8 in Big West play.
The Matadors (15-26, 5-9 Big West) started the scoring in the series with a three-run home run in the third inning. The Aggies clawed back by plating their lone run in the bottom of the frame when
Anna Dethlefson scored after getting hit by a pitch on a single to right-center off the bat of
Libbie McMahan.

Kenedi Brown (11-11) was tagged with the loss after allowing the three runs on four hits while striking out four in the complete game effort.
The Aggies collected four hits in the opener as
Sommer Kisling,
Delaney Diaz and
Sarah Nakahara recorded the hits.
In game two, CSUN took a 2-0 lead after scoring in the opening frame and adding another in the third. UC Davis loaded the bases in the sixth and threatened to take the lead with one out, but Matador reliever Allie Gardiner got out of the jam.
CSUN tacked on five insurance runs in the top of the seventh before UC Davis got on the board with two in the final frame.
Kisling started the rally with a single down the right field line and then
Sarah Starks doubled down the line in left.
Reese Mattley raced out an infield single to plate Kisling and then Diaz followed suit with a single in the hole by first to score Starks.
The Aggies banged out 10 hits but left 11 on base as Kisling, Mattley and Diaz posted multi-hit games.
Taylor Fitzgerald (4-6) received the loss after allowing seven runs, five earned on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings.
The two teams will close out the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
