Riverside, Calif. - The Aggies rallied to score four runs in the top of the eighth inning on Friday night but it wasn't enough to top the UC Riverside Highlanders in an 8-10 loss in Riverside.
Jonah Henrickson led off the eighth with a home run pulled to right field,
Mark Wolbert hit his first career triple,
Jake Brandel singled,
James Williams III doubled,
Daniel Cruz hit an RBI ground out, and
Nick Iverson singled to pull the Aggies within 8-10 but UC Davis wasn't able to get closer for the final margin.
Williams III set a career-best going 4-5 with two runs scored. The last Aggie to have four hits in a game was
Jalen Smith on May 8, 2021 against CSUN.
J.D. Mico extended his career-best hitting streak to seven games going 2-5 with a run scored. Henrickson went 1-6 with his single season career-best third home run this season. Brandel had his first multi-hit game of the season going 3-5 with two runs scored and an RBI to extend his hitting streak to four games.
Nick Iverson had his second career three-hit game, going 3-4 and raising his team-leading average to .324 by driving in three runs. Making his first career start, Cruz also scored and drove in the first runs of his career.
Nick Leehey made it back-to-back two-hit games by driving in
J.D. Mico for the game's first run and Wolbert went 2-5.
Friday marked the third time this season UC Davis has scored four runs or more in the seventh inning or later.
The three-game series against the Highlanders continues on Saturday at 6 p.m. with
Nathan Peng scheduled to open for the Aggies.
