SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The UC Davis softball team suffered two losses in heartbreaking fashion, Sunday afternoon in the conclusion of the Capital Classic at Shea Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State. The Aggies fell to Dixie State, 6-5, in the late morning contest and then dropped the afternoon matchup against the Hornets, 3-2.
Game 1
The Aggies and Trailblazers traded runs early on as UC Davis scored two in the opening frame. Dixie State responded with one in the first and another in the second to even the score.
The Aggies tacked on two more in the fourth, but the Trailblazers answered with three runs in the fifth. UC Davis evened the score in the sixth but ultimately fell in the seventh inning on an error.

Reese Mattley batted 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Game 2
For the second straight day, the Causeway rivals battled. This time, it took extra innings to sort it out as Sacramento State ultimately won, 3-2 in extra innings.
The Aggies struck first in the top of the fifth inning, but the Hornets answered with two runs in the bottom half. UC Davis evened the score in the sixth but fell in the eighth inning to move to 6-11 on the season.
UC Davis will head west to participate in the SVC Tournament. The Aggies open the weekend against Utah State on Friday, March 11 at 1 p.m., and then will play host Santa Clara at 3:30 p.m.
