Davis, Calif. -
Sierra Gundersen has been named the first Aggie to make National Collegiate Equestrian Association Ariat All-America team with the organization announcing this year's winners on Thursday.
Gundersen was a Second Team All-American in flat.
Carly Sweeney previously held the highest honor achieved by an Aggie when she was named All-America Honorable Mention in 2021 for flat.
The top five riders per event were selected and named Ariat First-Team All-America by the NCEA Selection Committee. The next five riders per event earned Second Team honors. Honorable Mention honorees were selected via set criteria such as having a 67 percent or better win percentage and competing in 67 percent or more of a team's regular season meets. There is no limit on how many riders are named an honorable mention, assuming they meet the criteria.
A sophomore from Ridgefield, Conn., Gundersen went a remarkable 9-1 during the 2021-22 season, including two wins at the ECAC Championships. She now holds the school record for flat victories in a single season as well as the career wins total with 13 in her three-year career.
Gundersen helped lead the Aggies to a semifinal finish at the ECAC Championships this season, the highest conference finish by UC Davis in program history.
