Davis, Calif. -
Cami Nembach has been named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Standout Student-Athlete of the Month for March, the organization announced on Monday.
Nembach joins
Oceana Haaland as the only two Aggies to be named Standout Student-Athlete by the NCEA. Haaland was recognized in March 2020.
A junior from Chula Vista, Nembach was a mid-year addition in 2019-20 and was voted a captain in 2020-21 and then re-elected this season. She was instrumental in keeping the team connected as it navigated the challenges COVID-19 posed that year. Nembach also works with UC Davis' three other captains to organize barn chores and meet day duties.
"Cami is also one of our biggest cheerleaders and supporters, she is constantly encouraging the team while pushing them to work harder and improve daily," head coach
Jessie Weisinger said. "At our end of year banquet this past year, we created a new award called the Gunrock Spirit Award. This award is voted on by teammates and goes not only to the student-athlete that is the loudest and proudest on meet days but can always be found encouraging and supporting others day in and day out. Cami was our inaugural recipient of this award, and it couldn't have been more deserving."
An English & Spanish major, Nembach will be pursuing law school after UC Davis.
