Aggies Sweep Silicon Valley Classic; Blank Idaho State, 3-0

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The UC Davis softball team swept through the competition this weekend at the Silicon Valley Classic, going a perfect 5-0 in the tournament to move to .500 on the season with an 11-11 mark. The Aggies closed out the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Idaho State at the Spartan Softball Complex.

The UC Davis duo of Taylor Fitzgerald and Kenedi Brown kept the Bengals at bay, surrendering just three hits while striking out six. Fitzgerald earned the victory, going five innings with two strikeouts while walking one. Brown struck out four in a perfect two innings of relief.

The Aggies pitching staff shined all weekend, holding opponents to a .123 batting average while sporting an incredible 0.19 ERA in 37 innings pitched. Brown and Fitzgerald both went 2-0 with unblemished 0.00 ERA's. Brown allowed just one hit and struck out 21 in 13 innings of work.

UC Davis did all its damage in a three-run fourth inning. Anna Dethlefson, who was a thorn in the side of opponents all weekend long, once again was the catalyst to a big Aggie inning with a single and a promptly stole second. After a Sommer Kisling single to left, Sarah Starks supplied the big hit with a double to right-center to plate Dethlefson and Kisling. Bella Pahulu then singled up the middle to plate Starks to give the UC Davis arms all the insurance they needed.

The Aggies outscored their opponents 14-3 on the weekend as Delaney Diaz paced the team offensively with a .313 average. Sarah Nakahara and Reese Mattley both hit at a .308 clip on the weekend.

UC Davis will now carry the momentum into Big West play as the Aggies host Cal State Fullerton for the three-game set, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 19 at La Rue Field.
