Aggies Back on Track with Two More Wins on Saturday

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The UC Davis softball team collected two more wins on Saturday at the Silicon Valley Classic, held at the Spartan Softball Complex on the campus of San Jose State. The Aggies opened the day with a 5-1 win over Utah State, and then downed host San Jose State, 2-1, in the nightcap.

Game 1

The Aggies continued their winning ways by downing Utah State, 5-1, Saturday morning. UC Davis banged out 10 hits while freshman hurler Mia Hildebrand allowed just three in the circle, going the distance to earn her first collegiate win.

After Utah State scored in the opening frame, UC Davis scored five unanswered to secure the victory. Hildebrand helped her own cause in the second by evening the score with a single up the middle to score sophomore Bella Pahulu.

The Aggies added another in the third when senior Delaney Diaz drove home sophomore Anna Dethlefson on a single to right. UC Davis pulled away in the fourth inning with three runs. Sophomore Sarah Nakahara started things off with a single up the middle to plate Pahulu. Dethlefson then supplied the punch with a double to center to score Hildebrand. Junior Sommer Kisling then closed the scoring with a single to center that brought home Dethlefson.

Game 2

A two-run fourth inning gave the Aggies their fourth straight win as Sarah Reineman and Kenedi Brown combined to hold the Spartans to only three hits and one run.

Brown (5-7) earned the victory after allowing just one hit and striking out six in four innings of relief.

Freshman Reese Mattley paced the Aggies at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort as newcomer Grace Kilday had the big hit with a two-run single to right.

The Aggies conclude tournament play tomorrow morning against Idaho State at 9 a.m.
