OPENING TIP
If there is anything certain about a Jim Les-coached team, it's that there's no counting out the Aggies in the postseason.

UC Davis opened its tournament run with a win on Tuesday, gritting its way to a 63-53 victory over Cal Poly.

The Aggies advance to face Cal State Fullerton and former Aggie Dedrique Taylor for a third time this season. The Titans won both regular season matchups but UC Davis led by nine with 4:01 to go and by seven with 3:03 to go of that 62-59 loss.

Thursday's quarterfinal will tip off at 6 p.m. Scott Marsh will have the local radio broadcast call on Sports 1140 KHTK. Richie Schueler and Tim Neverett will again have the ESPN+ call.

The Aggies turned a tight game into a late lead on Tuesday, using a 5-0 run with 5:34 left to go up 48-43. UC Davis then used an 8-1 run to go up by 10 with 1:35 remaining.

In all, UC Davis outscored the Mustangs 20-10 over the final 5:34 on Tuesday.

With Tuesday's win, Aggies have advanced to at least the quarterfinal round in every Big West Tournament it was qualified for since 2009, the first year UC Davis competed at the tournament. The 2022 tournament marks the eighth straight that the Aggies will play in.

UC Davis has not been to the Big West Conference Tournament championship since winning the tournament in 2017, a 50-47 victory over UC Irvine. The Aggies went on to defeat North Carolina Central in a First Four game 67-63. They then hung with Kanas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before losing 62-100.

CAL STATE FULLERTON AT A GLANCE
The Aggies and Titans are no strangers as Thursday will mark the third time the teams have played this season and the second time in two weeks.

Their last meeting was sharp reversal of the 74-58 loss UC Davis suffered in January. UC Davis took a nine-point lead into the final four minutes against Cal State Fullerton on Mar. 3 but it wound up being just the second loss the Aggies have suffered this season when leading with five minutes to go.

The Titans enjoyed an outstanding regular season, battling for the top seed for much of it before finishing second to Long Beach State.

They had the third-ranked offense in the conference, one of four teams to average over 70 points per game. They're led by the conference scoring champion, forward E.J. Anosike, who's 16.3 points per game was best in the Big West.
