LONG BEACH, Calif. – The UC Davis women's tennis team was edged out by Long Beach State in the Big West road opener, 4-3, at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
The Aggies battled, winning the singles points at the No. 2 through No. 4 positions, but dropped the doubles point and a close match at No. 6.
The first singles victory on the day came when junior Yana Gurevich downed Sheena Masuda, 7-6 (2), 6-3, for her third straight win in this young dual spring season.
Sophomore Olive Maunupau defeated Arina Babkova, 7-5, 6-0, while freshman Arianna Stavropoulos downed Zara Lennon, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Sara Tsukamoto and junior Lauren Ko won the lone match for the Aggies at No. 2 doubles.
UC Davis will continue its Southern California road trip when the Aggies take on UC Riverside at the SRC Tennis Courts tomorrow at 11 a.m.
