IRVINE, Calif. – No. 10 UC Davis fell to No. 6 Michigan 9-8 on the second day of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
The Aggies would start the match scoring the first three goals of the match with one by Allyson Clague, Noelle Wijnbelt and Hailey Williams apiece. The Wolverines would score the next four goals to take the lead, at 4-3, on an Ava Morrant strike with 58 seconds left in the half. Grace Pelkey would tie the match at 4-4 with 37 seconds left in the half. The two teams were tied 4-4 at halftime.
In the second half, the two teams would trade goals, and the lead, for the majority of the half. Both teams would score two goals in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Wolverines would take the lead for good at 8-7 with 2:39 left. The Aggies would score with eleven seconds left on Wijnbelt goal to trim the Wolverines' lead to one at 9-8 but would come no closer.
UC Davis out-shot Michgan 26-22 and won three of the four sprints.
The 10th-ranked Aggies will finish up their time in Irvine against No. 13 Long Beach State at 9:15 am on Sunday.
