Aggies maul Mustangs to open road trip

Hall posts third-straight 20-point game as every UC Davis player gets in the scoring column

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Senior Cierra Hall collected her third straight game with at least 20 points, finishing with a game-high 22, Evanne Turner added 14 more points, and every Aggie who entered the game scored at least two points, as UC Davis romped over Big West Conference rival Cal Poly, 85-55, on Thursday night at the Mott Athletic Center in San Luis Obispo.

The Aggies won their third straight game to improve to 12-9 overall on the year and 6-5 in league play, while the Mustangs fell to 3-16 overall and 2-8 in league.

UC Davis' 85 points were a season high, breaking the previous mark set in an 84-55 win over Stanislaus State earlier this year, while the total marked the most points against a Division I opponent since the Aggies posted an 87-54 win at home against Cal Poly back on March 6, 2019.

After posting back-to-back 20-point games in wins over UC San Diego and UC Irvine last week, Hall did herself two points better on Thursday night, finishing 8-of-10 from the field with a career-high five three-pointers, adding seven rebounds and five assists in 24 minutes.

The appearance was the 132nd of her career, matching Morgan Bertsch's mark set in 2019, while the 22 points give her 1,216 points for her career -- just six points behind Pele Gianotti for 11th place on the school's all-time list.

Turner finished 5-of-9 from the field -- four of those from beyond the arc -- en route to her 14 points, adding a pair of rebounds and three assists in just 18 minutes. Senior Sage Stobbart finished with eight points, six rebounds, and four blocked shots, sophomore Campbell Gray added nine more points, while sophomore Kenedy Lilly finished with a career-high eight points on 4-of-4 from the floor.

UC Davis opened the game on an 8-0 run out of the gate and added another 10-0 burst following a Mustang three pointer, hitting its first eight shots of the contest and never looking back. The Aggies led 28-8 after the first quarter, held a 30-point, 50-20 lead at halftime, and led by as many as 39 points at 64-25 with 5:17 remining in the third quarter.

The 50-point first half was the largest half of the season for the Aggies and the team's first 50-point half since scoring 58 in the second half against William Jessup on Jan. 1, 2020, in a 96-32 victory.

UC Davis finished the night shooting a season-high 57 percent from the field -- its fifth game shooting 50 percent or higher this season and the highest since shooting .585 in the win over William Jessup -- while holding Cal Poly to just 31 percent.

The Aggies' week comes to a close on Saturday (Feb. 19) at 1 p.m., heading inland to take on CSU Bakersfield.
