DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis women's tennis team dropped a close one to San Francisco, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Mayra Welch Tennis Center. The loss marks the first defeat on the Aggies home court.

The Aggies swept the doubles point, battling after a 6-0 win from junior Yana Gurevich and freshman Arianna Stavropoulos. Sophomores Olive Maunupau and Carly Schwartzberg second the point with a 7-5 at No. 3 doubles. Senior Sara Tsukamoto and junior Lauren Ko also won, 7-5, at No. 2.

The Aggies extended their lead to 3-0 as Gurevich and Stavropoulos quickly won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles in straight sets.

The Dons rallied though, with straight set victories at No. 4 – 6 to even the score. Sophomore Maria Martines Vaquero clinched the win for San Francisco at No. 1 singles, downing Tsukamoto in a three-set thriller, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.

The Aggies will return to their home courts tomorrow for two matches. UC Davis will welcome Holy Names at 9:30 a.m. and then host Santa Clara at 1:30 p.m.
