DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis softball team fell in the season opener, 3-0, to Santa Clara Friday afternoon. The Aggies (0-1) could not catch a break, lining into loud outs all game long in the first contest of the NorCal Kickoff at La Rue Field.

Sophomore hurler Kenedi Brown was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs – one earned - on seven hits with four punchouts in the complete-game effort.

In the sixth inning, Santa Clara did all its damage, plating three runs on three hits in the frame. Three Aggies errors tilted the advantage in the Broncos' favor.

Sophomores Leah Polson and Tatum Wentworth had the lone hits for UC Davis. Freshman Morgan Salmon and redshirt-junior Sammy Needham collected two hits apiece for the Broncos.

Redshirt-freshman pitcher Hannah Edwards earned the win, allowing two hits and striking out four in the shutout effort.

UC Davis will continue NorCal Kickoff tournament play with two games tomorrow. The Aggies will face Saint Mary's at 11:30 a.m., and then host Montana at 2 p.m.
