Davis, Calif. - The Aggies opened the second half of the 2021-22 season at UT Martin in Tennessee and took fences and reining from the No. 9 Skyhawks but fell 8-11 on Friday.
UC Davis (2-4, 1-3) opened the meet by winning fences 3-2, led by
Keely Laughlin's career-best 87 that netted her a 13-point win. Four of the Aggies' fences scores were over 80 with
Carly Sweeney (83) and Tasia Anstad (82) winning by two and 12 points respectively while
Nicole Beales lost 84-85.
Beales was the only Aggie point in flat with a 67.5-63.5 win, though Anstead scored her fourth 80-plus score of the season with an 80.5-84 loss that dropped her to 5-1 in flat.
Competing for the first time since Oct. 3,
Ruby Nahum won her horsemanship point 71-68 and
Kayla Hickey drew 73-73 but UC Davis surrendered three points in the event.
Nusser led a comeback in reining as UC Davis went 3-2 behind her career-best 69.5 that also netted her a first career MOP.
Kendal Scheiner won with a 67.5 as her opponent failed to score and
Macey Newkirk 67-66 to move her reining record to 4-2.
The Aggies ended the day with the first half of a meet against No. 1 Oklahoma State and trail just 3-5 at the conclusion of flat and reining. The remainder of that meet will resume on Saturday morning at 10 PST.
