SPOKANE, Wash. - The UC Davis women's basketball team dropped its final road game of the calendar year, 73-55 to the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Sunday.
Evanne Turner led the Aggies (3-5) with eight points, four assists and two steals. Megan Norris added 12 points and Megan Jones chipped in as well with eight points from the bench.
How It Happened
After falling behind 14-10, UC Davis went on a 5-0 run with 2:04 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Victoria Baker, to take a 15-14 lead. Gonzaga then responded to tie things up at 16-16 heading into the second quarter. UC Davis relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 16 points.
Gonzaga then took a 32-21 lead before UC Davis responded by going on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a three from Turner, to narrow its deficit to 32-27, a score that would hold until halftime.
Gonzaga continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 44-36 advantage before UC Davis went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Baker, to trim its deficit to 44-41 with 40 seconds to go in the third. Gonzaga countered and stretched its lead to 50-41, heading into the fourth. UC Davis played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 14 points in the paint.
Gonzaga kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 58-45 advantage before UC Davis went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Norris' layup, to shrink the deficit to 58-50 with 6:10 to go in the contest. Gonzaga responded and outscored the Aggies the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 73-55. UC Davis took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 14 points in the paint.
