Aggies Take Down Pacific in Turkey Tipoff, 74-68

STOCKTON, Calif. – The UC Davis women's basketball team returned to their winning ways as the Aggies downed host Pacific, 74-68, Sunday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center. After the win, the Ags move back to .500 at 3-3, while the Tigers drop to 4-3 on the season.

Four Aggies recorded double-digit scoring performances as Mazatlan Harris and Sydney Burns paced the squad with 16 points apiece, while Evanne Turner followed with 14 and Tess Sussman chipped in 11.

UC Davis dominated the glass, outrebounding Pacific 47-29 as Sussman rounded out her double-double with a game-high 13 boards. Megan Jones was active defensively, tallying 10 rebounds, four blocks and two steals in the winning effort.

The Ags started off strong, putting together an 18-17 after one quarter of play. UC Davis relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 18 points.

The Aggies built that first quarter lead to 33-31 advantage before going on a 5-0 run, starting at the 2:10 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Turner, to increase the lead to 38-31. The Tigers cut into that lead, but the Aggies still enjoyed a 38-36 advantage heading into the break.

Following intermission, UC Davis continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 52-48 before going on a 7-0 run to expand its lead further to 59-48 with 2:17 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Tigers had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Aggies still entered the fourth quarter with a 59-53 edge. UC Davis knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 21 total points from beyond the arc.

Pacific proceeded to take a 64-62 lead before UC Davis went on an 8-0 run to seize a 70-64 lead with 36 seconds to go in the contest. Sussman provided the big play with 2:33 left in the contest as she grabbed a loose ball and beat the shot clock to give the Ags a 68-64 advantage. With 1:03 left, Burns recorded a clutch theft to help UCD start going to the line for the eventual victory.

UC Davis will continue its road swing when the Aggies head to Moraga to face Saint Mary's on Saturday, Dec. 3. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
