Box Score LOS ANGELES – UC Davis continued its winning ways at the WWPA Championship as the Aggies took on the No. 4 seed Santa Clara University. The Aggies downed the Broncos, 12-7, and advanced to tomorrow's championship match.
The Aggies would gain the lead in the first quarter in very similar fashion as they did yesterday.
Will Nomura scored just 26 seconds into the contest to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.
Levi Murtaugh would extend the Aggies' lead to 2-0 with 6:44 left in the quarter. The Broncos would get a goal back with 6:16 left on a Dominic Kirk shot.
Andrew Hitchcock would extend the Aggies' lead to two, at 3-1, with four minutes left. Ford Eldredge scored the final goal of the quarter for Santa Clara with 18 seconds left. The Aggies led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Aggies would score the first four goals of the quarter to extend their lead to 7-2.
Aleix Aznar Beltran, Hitchcock,
Colin Nicholls and Nomura each scored during the run. The Broncos would score the final two goals of the period as the Aggies led 7-4 at halftime.
In the third quarter, both teams' defenses were on display as both teams only scored one goal apiece in the quarter. UC Davis' tally was scored by
Logan Anderson with 6:33 left in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, both teams would trade goals to start the quarter. Hitchcock would score with 7:34 left to start the scoring for the Aggies. After the Broncos scored with 5:43 left, the Aggies would score the next three goals, with one apiece coming from
Levi Murtaugh, Nomura and Voggenthaler to extend their lead to six at 12-6. The Broncos would add a tally for the final score.
Santa Clara out-shot UC Davis 31-29. UC Davis won all four sprints to open each quarter.
The Aggies will play for the WWPA Championship tomorrow at 1 pm against No. 11 seed UC San Diego.
