Box Score LOS ANGELES – UC Davis, the #1 seed in this year's WWPA Men's Water Polo Championship, started their quest for their second consecutive WWPA Championship as they took on Fresno Pacific University in Los Angeles. The Aggies defeated the Sunbirds 22-6
In the first quarter, the Aggies would strike first on a
Will Nomura shot just 29 seconds into the match. From that point, the Aggies would go on a 6-1 run, with two goals being scored by
Leo Giessmann and one apiece from
Andrew Hitchcock,
JT Kujawa. Nomura and
Aaron Voggenthaler. The Aggies led 7-2 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Aggies would score all seven goals in the quarter.
Levi Murtaugh and
Max Stryker would score two goals apiece and three players (
Brody Crouch,
Tyler Mrkaich and Voggenthaler) scored one goal apiece. The Aggies led 14-2 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Aggies would extended their lead. The Sunbirds would come as close as thirteen, at 17-4, on a Eugenio Maldonaldo shot with 4:20 left in the quarter.
Will Nomura had two goals in the third frame and four players (Hitchcock, Nicholls,
Vanya Soshnikov and Voggenthaler) had one apiece in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Aggies would add two more tallies with one by Giessmann and one by Hitchcock.
UC Davis out-shot Fresno Pacific 36-20 and was 3-5 on the power play. UC Davis won all four sprints to open each quarter.
The Aggies will continue their trip to Southern California tomorrow as they will take on #4 seed Santa Clara University. The first sprint is set for noon.
